It looks to be a good day to ride.

Thanks,
Maria

New Year 2010

Hey Guys and Gals!

It's getting close to riding time again. Although some never stopped, you know who you are! We had our Election and new officers for the next two years. We will all miss the guidance and hard work of "Momma", but luckily she is just a phone call away. And we know she will still be "Momma"! As a group that started out as 5 members we have grown each year. And we will continue grow more this year. We are planning our 2 Charity Rides for this year; as well as, a few fun rides. So check back regularly on the home page for more information.

Well our last blog ended in September 2009. We met up at Morgan's parking lot at 11:00am. Then headed toward Kings Mountain. We stopped at the State Park and visited the historical center. While sitting outside, someone mentioned Strawberry Hill was just down the road. We all agreed it was a beautiful day for riding so why not. Lets go check it out. After asking directions(just to make sure we didn't get lost), we were off and going again. Unfortunately, Strawberry Hill was closed when we arrived. Even though their website says they are open seven days a week 8am to 8pm; so we'll have to go back another day. Someone asked a local couple who were there for a good place to eat close by. They directed us to Bantam Chef. This is a 50's style restaurant. It was like stepping back in time; all the old memorabilia that was all over the walls and on display. The Studebaker that was restored and sitting inside the restaurant was great too. As for the food, I will definitely take another road trip to try another item on their menu. I had the small bacon-cheeseburger (I could not have eaten the large), onion rings, and a tea; it was delicious. The price was unbelievably cheap. Once our bellies were full it was time to roll on. We headed back home via the scenic route up highway 18 into Shelby. Our little Sunday ride was about 150 miles, give or take a few, round trip. I can't wait until we can go again.

Oh, that reminds me if you don't have plans Easter week-end, we are going camping. We are traveling to Willville Motorcycle Camp Ground that weekend. This is strictly motorcycles, no cars. We took off in search of a new camp ground. We were looking for High Country Motorcycle Campground. In my opinion, this is a nice place to camp. It is 14 acres of North Carolina mountains, so there is plenty of room to pitch your tent beside the creek. And for those who do not like tent camping they also have a bunkhouse that sleeps twelve, remember to bring your ear plugs just in case your room mates snore. Or you may be able to rent the cabin if it's not already booked. High Country has a bath house with washer and dryer. They have a pavilion that can seat 200. I can't wait until they open in mid-April.

After checking out the facilities, we decided to eat at Applebee's in Lenoir. After a good meal it was time to head home.

We rode about 180 miles round trip. It was a great relaxing ride through the back roads. I look forward to many more rides this year.

See ya at HorseFeathers on the 21st,

Welcome 2009!

Good evening everyone!

I hope everyone is as excited about riding this year as we are. We took a vacation to the Outer Banks In July. I have to tell you if you get a change to take a week and go, please do so! It was the most wonderful experience. Of course, we rode the bikes there and back (for over 1580 miles round trip). We visited the light houses, relaxed on the beach, toured the aquarium, visited the Wright Brothers Monument, and rode just about the whole island among other sites. I would have loved to had more time to stay. And the food, well lets say it was some of the best I have ever tasted. I can't wait until we can go again. There is still so much I wanted to do but like all vacations it had to end.

We had our Scrabble Run in August. It was a great day for riding. We left from Highland Park in five different groups. But some how we all arrived back within minutes of each other. Which made for an interesting game. There was seventeen players. There were lots of prizes awarded. We got to meet new riders and as always we are thankful. Thank you to all who participated!! All of the proceeds were donated to Amy's House.

Last month we rode to Meadows of Dan, Virgina to a motorcycle camp ground. Again we had a wonderful time! This was the first motorcycle camp ground that I have ever experienced, but it won't be the last! It was so relaxing to sit around the bonfire and meet other riders from all different places. This is also another experience that I would recommend that everyone who loves the outdoors try.

This Sunday we had our Parkway Picnic ride. Thanks to Raymond and Tina who toted all our goodies in their trailer. We stopped at one of the parks and ate then rode some more. It was wonderful to have such good friends and company on such a beautiful ride.

We are preparing for the Business Meeting November 5th. This is for the By-Laws. As always ride safe, ride often, and It's not what you Ride - It's that you Ride!!

See ya there!

Hey, blog fans. We had a wonderful time at the gem mine Sunday. As advertised we rolled out from Morgan's in town at 1:00. Then it was off through the country towards the Hiddenite Gem Mine. With Gary Lovin leading everyone, we rode through quite a few little towns including Stoney Point and Scott. We enjoyed some curves, stunning scenery and serene drive.

After the relaxing, beautiful ride we arrived at the gem mine. Once parked it was down the hill to the office where we purchased our sluicing permits for $5.00 each. Then off to the sluices, we picked our buckets of dirt then took time to sift through the dirt for our gems. Some of the gems that could be found were rubies, sapphires, emeralds, aquamarines, garnets, topaz, amethysts, citrines, tourmaline, smoky and clear quartz crystals.

While at the gem mine we were listening to the thunder rolling all around us. But Lady Luck was keeping it away. After we had emptied our buckets, gathered up our stones, and enjoyed a snack it was time to hit the road again. Gary lead us over to Linney's Mill. They were closed but we were still able to cross the swinging, wooden bridge, walk in the creek, and take pictures. We headed on to Fire Mountain in Wilkesboro via Brushy Mt. Road, it rivals the "Tail of the Dragon". We rode though areas where the liquid sunshine had recently pasted through, but so far we had avoided it.

Once our tummies were full we headed home. We started to travel Hwy 16, then a little "birdie" called to say take another way. Thanks to that birdie we avoided the sleet! Gary lead us back down Hwy 321 to Startown Road, then it was time to stop and put on the weather gear, for it looked really dark ahead. However, we are a riding club, and we fear no weather. Once again we were headed home. We managed to stay dry until about two miles outside of the Lincoln Co. line.

Over all I think that everyone had a first rate experience. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at the meeting Sunday. Check out the home page for details. Don't forget to bring a friend.

I'd like to mention that we had a good time at the Hog Happening event with our "dancing pig" too. It was a little hot but it wasn't unbearable. Our own Linda Lovin won first place in the Bike Show.

Until next time,

B.R.A.K.E.S. As you probably already know we rode for B.R.A.K.E.S on April 20th 2008 but due to the low attendance caused by all the rain in the area that day; we re-rode today. Mother Nature smiled her golden sunshine on us today!

We would like to say “Thank You!!!” for your donation to the B.R.A.K.E.S foundation. As you may or may not know B.R.A.K.E.S. is a non-profit organization founded by Doug Herbert and teenagers after the tragic accident that took the life of his two sons. On January 26, 2008, Doug Herbert experienced every parent’s worst nightmare: his two sons, Jon, 17, and James, 12, lost their lives in a tragic automobile accident. Trying to make some sense of this horrible tragedy, Doug has made it his mission to help prevent other parents, friends and families from enduring the pain he has been going through. This desire to help prevent further tragedy spurred Doug into action. After partnering with Jon’s classmates from Southlake Christian Academy, B.R.A.K.E.S. – Be Responsible and Keep Everyone Safe – was born. B.R.A.K.E.S. Mission Statement is: To save lives and raise awareness of young drivers. Let’s help save lives – Put on the B.R.A.K.E.S. All of the sign-up fees from today’s Ride will be donated to help support the foundation.

It was a beautiful day for a ride; sunny with just a mild breeze blowing. We started a Morgan’s Dairy Bar & Calf-A in Lincolnton at 1:30, with the first stop being Bandy’s High School; the home of the Trojan’s in Catawba. It was followed by Rock Springs Elementary School in Denver. Next stop was Highland Park in Boger City for a pit-stop. After a brief break we were once again on the road to Asbury School. Once again off to Kiser Elementary School in Stanley. The fifth stop on today’s ride was East Lincoln High School, the home of the Mustangs in Denver. The final stop was Southlake Christian Academy, in Huntersville; the School where B.R.A.K.E.S. was named. As you can tell, we spelled B.R.A.K.E.S with the schools we visited. We all had a Be Responsible And Keep Everyone Safe, fun ride with a lot of laughs for a good cause.

At Southlake Academy we awards door prizes. After the ride we went to Sports Page Food & Spirits in Denver for dinner. Anyone who wished to join us was welcome. It was 39 cent wings today!

We would also like to thank B.R.A.K.E.S foundation, Parts Unlimited, and Tucker Rocky for donating the door prizes.

We are planning a “FUN” ride to Maggie Valley, North Carolina for Memorial Weekend. Please check out our home page for details. We will leave Sunday May 25th 2008 and come home Monday May 26th 2008. We will visit “Wheels Through Time”, the Museum that Runs!

We hope that everyone will be able to go with us!!! Be sure to bring a friend or four!

Until next time,
LCC

Note: A “FUN” ride means we are not asking for a sign-up fee since it is not for an organization. Each rider will be responsible for any and all expenses. Example: lodging, fuel, admissions, etc.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://lincolncountycruisers.blogspot.com/2008/05/brakes-ride.html' title='B.R.A.K.E.S. We had a great turn out! The weather was a little chilly and windy but we all had a safe fun ride with a lot of laughs for a good cause.

We started the day off with a buffet breakfast at Ryan’s in Lincolnton, where we signed up new members, registered riders for the “Hunt”, added new e-mail addresses, explained our goals and gave out “clues”. After opening the clues some riders who were not from Lincolnton were urged to buddy up with someone who was. As with anything the more brains working the better the responses. Then everyone was off to hunt for the seven stops to find a “charm” at each one. The stops were in no exact order and they stretched from east to west. With three hours to search the county and to arrive back at Woodmill Winery, it gave plenty of riding time. We also provided a “Hint Hotline” for anyone who was having trouble locating a stop. A few riders had to call but that is what the hotline was for, besides realizing you were in the wrong place was half the fun.

The first rider back with all seven charms won a 1 year membership to Lincoln County Cruisers, congratulations Gary Lovin. Each rider received one entry for the door prizes for every stop that they returned a charm from. So if you had seven charms you had seven chances of winning a door prize. Thank you to Ryan’s, Open Road Cycles, Dillworth Coffee House, Hospice and Woodmill Winery for allowing us to use their facilities Sunday. We would also like to thank Al Lane Motorsports, Dillworth Coffee House, Straps and Snaps, Parts Unlimited, and Tucker Rocky for donating the door prizes.

As a result of Sunday’s ride Hospice was awarded $ 325 as a donation. Not bad for a cool, windy day of fun.

For anyone who was unable to attend:
Lincoln County Cruisers is a not for profit organization that is dedicated to providing a safe riding experience for everyone who enjoys riding and having fun. We do not have any initiations, no special requirements that a rider has to meet or any specific motorcycle brand. We welcome riders to join us for any of our charity rides. The only requirement is that you pay your registration fee and have fun riding while being safe. The signup fee is donated to the charity for that day.

If you wish to become a part of the Lincoln County Cruisers and wear one of our t-shirts there is a membership fee of $25.00. Membership pays for the t-shirts, stickers, newsletters and you can ride in all the charity rides for a reduced cost. Plus there will be some member only rides later in the summer.

We look forward to seeing you all at the next ride on April 20th 2008. Hopefully the weather will be warmer and less windy. Be sure to bring a friend or two!

First Ride of the Season

Sunday March 16th 2008

Scavenger Hunt

Come Join Us for Breakfast-Meeting-Ride

Where:
Ryan's Breakfast Buffet

357 Generals Blvd

Lincolnton, NC 28092

When:
Breakfast 8:30 am [Buffet price $7.68 including tax per person]

At the meeting we will introduce ourselves and explain the rules for the scavenger hunt ride; As well as the stops and the dates for future rides.

Membership fee is $25.00 for the first member then 2-more family members is $20.00 each.
